Horse Rearing Animation

For my ninth animation (Unit 7) I returned to the horse again and had to follow live action footage to create a horse rearing up. For this task I continued to use the horse rig by MothmanTD and found this very good reference video of a horse rearing on Youtube called “Horse rearing on commnad (sic)” created by Miss_Crazie_Maisie

Despite following the instructions I found that the method suggested in the tutorials for uploading a video into Maya didn’t work and so had to find a different solution. Following the video “Import Video Reference Into Autodesk Maya” created by Michael Swartz I had to convert my video file into an image sequence. However, after doing this and uploading it into Maya, I found the video was twice the speed of the original, something I didn’t realise until after I had completed the task. As I am unsure what caused this issue I have been unable to rectify it. When I have slightly more time I will do more indepth research into what caused it and hopefully fix the problem.

Despite the issues with the speed of the video I am very happy with how it looks in principle. Learning how to use live action footage is very helpful as it is a very different method used than that of the previous units.

Due to the previously mentioned issues I would suggest watching the final video at half speed to get a more accurate picture.

Hi, my name is Alex.

I’ve been passionate about animation since I was six years old. I used to create short videos with my Star Wars Lego figures bringing my stories to life. I’ve been doing the same kind of thing ever since and when I had the opportunity to learn the skills and software needed to build and animate for games, I jumped at the chance. My love for video games meant that Game Design was an obvious choice for my degree and showed me that, actually, animation was the way I wanted to go. I am currently doing a Master's in Character and Creature Animation at the University of Hertfordshire. Before that I studied Game Design at the University of Wolverhampton.

I am proficient in Maya, Blender, and Unreal Engine, and also have experience of 3DS Max and Rokoko Motion Capture Software.
