Dinosaur Animation

For my eighth animation I had to animate a dinosaur stomping about. I used the suggested Dino rig by Harry Gladwin-Geoghegan.

This animation was a lot of fun and one that I was particularly looking forward to working on when I saw it on the list of units. I am very pleased with how it turned out, as I think it conveys a real sense of “stomping” thanks to the camera shake. I have tried this camera technique in the past without success so I am happy that I have had the chance to do it well.

I have animated the overlapping action in the arms so that when a leg hits the ground the corresponding arm moves further forward than the other arm. I think this helps to enchance the appeal of the animation.

Hi, my name is Alex.

I’ve been passionate about animation since I was six years old. I used to create short videos with my Star Wars Lego figures bringing my stories to life. I’ve been doing the same kind of thing ever since and when I had the opportunity to learn the skills and software needed to build and animate for games, I jumped at the chance. My love for video games meant that Game Design was an obvious choice for my degree and showed me that, actually, animation was the way I wanted to go. I am currently doing a Master's in Character and Creature Animation at the University of Hertfordshire. Before that I studied Game Design at the University of Wolverhampton.

I am proficient in Maya, Blender, and Unreal Engine, and also have experience of 3DS Max and Rokoko Motion Capture Software.
