Horse Trot Animation

The third unit was to animate a horse trot. The tutorials recomended a couple of different rigs that could be used, but I decided to use the horse Rig by MothmanTD, as it was the one that was actually demonstrated in the videos. This meant that I could follow along more easily.

In many ways the horse animation was similar to the leopard, but due to its less flexible spine it moves in a different way. The tutorials went into more detail about overlapping actions for this animation, such as ear movments, which meant they look more realistic and ultimately look better than the ears that I created for the leopard. I had some issues when trying to animate the tail, so after a number of unsucessful attempts to make it look good, I decided to leave it static. I intend to return to fix the tail part of the animation once I have gained more experience.

Hi, my name is Alex.

I’ve been passionate about animation since I was six years old. I used to create short videos with my Star Wars Lego figures bringing my stories to life. I’ve been doing the same kind of thing ever since and when I had the opportunity to learn the skills and software needed to build and animate for games, I jumped at the chance. My love for video games meant that Game Design was an obvious choice for my degree and showed me that, actually, animation was the way I wanted to go. I am currently doing a Master's in Character and Creature Animation at the University of Hertfordshire. Before that I studied Game Design at the University of Wolverhampton.

I am proficient in Maya, Blender, and Unreal Engine, and also have experience of 3DS Max and Rokoko Motion Capture Software.
