Bird Animation

For my fifth animation (unit 6) I had to create a flying crow. For this task I used the recommend Indian House Crow rig (which cannot be fully referenced as it no longer appears on the internet) which is useful due to it being lowpoly meaning that I can have lots of crows in one scene without causing lag.

I found this animation quite simple and it made a change to be able to animate a flying cycle as opposed to the more familiar walk cycle. Learning how to make and attach rigs to motion paths will almost certainly be useful for future animation. I am aware that this technique doesn’t just apply to flying creatures, it can also be used for animating something like “Spider-Man” swinging through a city.

Hi, my name is Alex, I am currently doing a masters in animation at the University of Hertfordshire. Before that I studied game design at the University of Wolverhampton. I have a passion for animation, computer games, 3D modelling and drawing.

I am proficient in Unreal Engine and Blender and have some skills in 3DS Max and Maya.
